Born to Believe – The Biblical Case for 1 John 5:1

Now, on T.C’s blog, I said I’d look into it since I’ve never really looked at 1 John 5:1 in considering the relationship between the new birth and believing in Christ. Having done the textual work, I would agree with Dr. Piper’s take on the passage, and so I shelved it in the “resolved” file in my mind and moved on.
Well, fast forward to a couple of days ago when, while I was hanging out in #prosapologian, an online hangout provided by Alpha and Omega Ministries, someone posted a link to Pastor Brian Brodersen and his wife Cheryl discussing – surprise – 1 John 5:1. Well, Dr. James White tackled the issue of 1 John 5:1 cogently and coherently, digging into the original Greek:
