The hardest working men in the Reformed world

It’s official – I love the White Horse Inn! (Well I have for a good long time now), but I finally caught up with the episodes I’ve missed, about three altogether, and I listened to the last one this morning, touching the subject of Biblical ignorance. I love talking abot doctrine and theology, but this episode fired me up differently, so I uploaded it to my webspace and here it is.

Before you listen in, I want to talk to my fellow young people. If you are attending a church which never proclaims Christ-centred doctrine, get the heck out of there! Paul admonished Timothy, and by extension all ministers of the Gospel, to watch their life AND their doctrine (1 Tim 4:16). If your pastor, apostle, bishop or whatever is denying you your right to Christ and Him crucified, the systematic exposition of the Scriptures and the doctrines of the faith, then:

A. Talk with him and try to reason with him

B. Get out of there and find a church which does teach the Word

OK, rant over. Here is the episode of the White Horse Inn:

HT: SolaChristos for reminding me to give this a listen

  1. Don’t know if you follow the green baggins blog – but this post from over there is a related topic:

    http://greenbaggins.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/a-disturbing-trend-in-evangelicalism/

The underlying attitudes it speaks to is also the cause of the sort of Biblical ignorance identified by the WHI (false dichotomies of head versus heart, revelation versus information, practical versus theology etc).

  2. Someone on FB stated the famous Jer 29:11 that everyone likes to quote and told her that she should read it in context. Her reply was and I quote 'Whether this scripture is in context or out of context i still love this scripture'. This shows how ignorance of biblical truth is so rmpant in the church

  3. Yes, well the church of today has adopted a utilitarian approach to the Bible – "This verse in isolation works well towards my need for assurance, wealth, etc.". Sad.

  4. Thanks for pointing this out, Bro. Chris :-)
